Confianza is a professional learning organization focused on building educator capacity that improves equitable outcomes for English language learners (ELLs) PK-12. Our services include coaching, workshops, online courses and consulting with the goal of sustainable impact with job-embedded professional learning communities. Since Confianza’s founding in 2015, our success with schools has been presented at national conferences (WIDA, Learning Forward, ASCD, TESOL) and we have collaborated with WIDA, Teaching Channel, the Center for Applied Linguistics, Harvard University, and as a “bright spot” for ELL in GettingSmart’s Supporting English Learners with Next Gen Tools white paper. Confianza is a state-approved professional learning vendor for the Rethinking the Education and Teaching of English Language Learners (RETELL)/Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MA DESE) and has also consulted with MA DESE on the the Next Generation ESL Model Curriculum Project. Having relocated our headquarters from MA to RI in Spring 2018, our consulting team is partnering with the Central Falls and now wish to provide services to other schools in Rhode Island through the Educator Course Network while continuing our work with our consulting team in the Midwest and in international schools. Sarah B. Ottow is Confianza’s Founder and author of The Language Lens for Content Classrooms: A Guide for K-12 Educators of English and Academic Language Learners, Learning Sciences International (2019).
