Founded in 1969, Learning Forward is a 501(c)(3) based in Dallas, Texas. Our mission is to build the capacity of leaders to establish and sustain highly effective professional learning. Learning Forward is the only association devoted exclusively to advancing professional learning to improve educator practice and student achievement.

Our vision is “equity and excellence in teaching and learning.” For all students to attend great schools, we need school districts that are authentic learning systems. Educators within learning systems develop and sustain cultures of continuous improvement; use data to drive decisions; and monitor and adjust their practices based on feedback. In learning systems, all educators commit to continuous learning, and apply that learning to their own and others’ performance.

Learning Forward is a comprehensive school improvement provider that works with educators at all levels within a system. Learning Forward established the Standards for Professional Learning to support schools and systems in planning, organizing, and implementing comprehensive systems of professional learning. We excel in supporting schools and organizations to develop cultures of learning and improvement. Learning Forward’s work is grounded in a theory of action that standards-based professional learning leads to changes in educator knowledge, skills and disposition. This leads to changes in educator practice, which leads to improved student results. Learning Forward’s experience supporting schools and systems to develop cultures of collaboration and collective responsibility has helped improve student achievement; close achievement gaps; ensure college and career readiness; increase teacher collaboration, retention, and satisfaction; and develop leaders from within.
