The Rhode Island Federation of Teachers & Health Professionals has been a provider of high quality professional development / learning opportunities for teachers, union leaders and partners in education for over 25 years.  Through its affiliation with the American Federation of Teachers, the RIFTHP's extensive suite of course and PD module offerings is based on research, best practice and a teacher-to-teacher expert facilitation model.  The RIFTHP PD Network is coordinated by Colleen A. Callahan, Ed.D., Director of professional issues and staffed by nationally trained local union teacher leaders with expertise in content, pedagogy and adult learning.  All RIFTHP facilitators receive national level training through the AFT and regular, on-going, support through the RIFTHP.

RIFTHP PD/PL opportunities are provided at both the state and local level through course offerings, stand alone and/or sequenced modules, as well as through embedded practices in local affiliates.  Offerings range from content specific modules in Mathematics, Reading, and Writing, to sessions on Effective Classroom Management, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, Building Social Competence, Supporting ELLs, Supporting Students w Disabilities,Tech Tools for Teachers, Evaluator Training, and more.  All RIFTHP PD/PL offerings have been reviewed for alignment to appropriate content standards, the RI Professional Learning Standards and the basic constructs of the various RI Evaluation Models.
